Poker table image: Have fun and loosen up

poker-table-imageI wonder what some professional poker players want to achieve with a table image that is so cold with the quiet demeanor plus a baseball cap, and dark glasses to boot. Maybe they want to let others see them as a tough, serious player so they can intimidate them. But when you think of it, have this very cold table image and you will most likely get opponents that you do not want to play against.

In case a recreational player is passing by some tables of poker. One table has people wearing caps, headsets, dark glasses and the works while on another table a group of people talking to each other, wearing comfortable clothes, and smiling during a round of poker. Where do you think the recreational poker player will join?

In case you are on a table that has players who are mean, cold, and tough. Will you be enjoying the game? Of course not, most likely you will tighten up and also be cold to everyone. You will also not last long with boring company who does not care about you and just cares about getting all your poker chips. This is oppose to the picture of joining a group of poker players who are just having good time.

The great players of poker though know how to put up a gambling image. You will have a hard time reading them since they can vary how they handle their cards. They will get the chips in the long run but they can appear to be losing during some rounds. They have it all planned out.

Exert some effort to get the gambling image on the poker table. Enjoy the game and loosen up a bit. It is nice to meet the best players and get to know poker without those dark glasses.

The Trouble in Poker

If you’re more concerned about not losing than you are about not winning, you’re definitely not going to win a poker game. People who hate taking necessary risks are very bad poker players. This doesn’t make people who leap before thinking good players of poker, either. One thing’s for sure, Online Gambling and Poker Photothough: mediocre poker players always fixate themselves on dodging trouble. The big fries, on the other hand, play with it.

This is silly. If all poker players are playing too safely, the game would revolve on senseless bankrolls. Besides, the only “troubling” situations you should avoid are those wherein you’re in trouble but your opponent is not. These situations are very rare, and they only ever occur when you don’t pay enough attention to the game. Most troubling situations happen when both opponents are facing near-equal levels of risk.

In most cases, your opponents are actually in bigger trouble that you. For example, instead of panicking because the weaknesses of your hand is staring you right in the face, you’ll fail to see the open opportunities to pull one over your more unprepared opponents. Instead of dodging trouble, poker players should master the art of handling troublesome situations. This doesn’t mean that you should risk your hand intentionally to get into trouble.

Poker in the Movies

Guess what the favorite card game is in Hollywood? Yes, it’s poker. And it comes as no surprise because the game’s principles, after all, reflect much of how we handle our daily lives. For example, in 1973’s The Sting, Robert Shaw was outhustled by Paul Newman by the very simple principle that when you’re playing with a cheat, you need to cheat better than he does. If you want to be a poker hustler, you better outhustle the hustlers!

In Grace Under Fire, the character of Grace claimed that women can indeed play poker because they’re good enough to bluff an orgasm. Anyone who can do that can definitely raise two deuces. While most of these poker movies reveal poor storylines with derivative epiphanies relating to the game, if you’re a hardheaded poker player, you’ll enjoy the writer’s attempts to parallelize life with a game of cards.

If you’re free this weekend, you should take the time to watch California Split (1974). This film actually attempts to document the life of gamblers in general. Aside from the sports bettors and other card players in the scenes, poker takes center stage with the World Series Poker Champion Amarillo Slim given a feature role.

Except for the ridiculous ending, The Cincinnati Kid (1965) is also a good poker movie to watch during your free time. Again, the whole story line isn’t so impressive especially if you really know how to play cards, but still, it’s a poker movie with Steve McQueen and Ann Margret in it. It’s definitely worth a few hours of your time.

However, THE best poker movie of all time… Rounders (1998) with Matt Damon. I’m not even going to try and spoil it for you — it’s the shiznit — check out the preview below…

Self Control in Poker

There are primary factors that influence your game in poker. A huge one is called luck, and another, skill. And one of the most overlooked factors of all is called luck. There was a comic slogan that said, folding poker photo “Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope.” (The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers) While those lines may seem funny to you, now, they reverberate a universal truth in the game of poker.

Of course, we’re not talking about dope here. We’re talking about self-control. When you’re playing a game of poker, self control will get you through times when you have no money better than money getting you through times of no self-control. This can’t be stressed enough in poker, and ironically, the majority of poker players have horrible self control. You can’t always rely on your gut when you’re playing poker.
